Love this place. Best pizza pot pie.
So I took the family into the city and thought this would be a great experience. Overall, we give Chicago Pizza and Oven Grinder a 3.8/5 stars. The wait to get in was a little excessive at 2 hours but when we tried to make a reservation, we were told over the phone that they couldn’t accommodate reservations at that time. So be it, we took a chance and waited anyway. Once inside the restaurant was cramped. The dining room was small and at most could seat about 80 people. The tables were a little too close together and made seating feel claustrophobic. The food was tasty. We started out with some Mediterranean flat bread drizzled in Garlic, Olive oil and herbs. I could have eaten that as my meal and been totally satisfied. On to the main dish….pizza pot pie….what this place is known for. There are 2 sizes and 3 variations. You can either order the 1/2 lb pot pie, or if you’re feeling hungry you can opt for the full pound pot pie. There is a meat version with sausage. You can dress it up by adding whole button mushrooms. The other version is a vegetarian with marinara sauce. Choice of crust is white or whole wheat. My family all opted for white crust, meat version with mushrooms. Two of us opted for the 1/2 pounder while the rest of us were in all out hangry mode and took on the full pounder. Value for the money. This place is a little heavy handed on price. All in the 1/2 pound pie was $18 including tax. The full pound pie was $36 tax included. This outing for a family of 5 was $187 plus 20% gratuity. We didn’t have anything to drink except water, so this bill was a little steep for it being just pizza. This was definitely an experience that i’m glad I tried. I really wanted to see what the hype was about. Would I do it again? Probably not, only because I don’t particularly care for feeling like I’m trapped and can’t get out. The prices could be a little friendlier too.
Long waits help keep out the Riff Raff!!! Zero wait times are for Sobers and Prudes!!!
Well, it was the most interesting kind of pizza ever, but I thought it had more mushrooms. Other than that, it was good , I will repeat and see if I get more mushrooms lol
So far the wait is terribly aggravating, not because it's so long but due to seeing many people not leaving tables when finished, and being poorly seated. We saw parties of 2 sat at open 4-6 party tables, rather than other open 2 party tables. Won't be back, if the food is phenomenal. Not work the stress of parking or the wait. Rather have gone to a fast food restaurant at this point. Been waiting well over an hour, after being told it would be 45 mins. Parking: Hard to find any
We just ate here and our Waiter Alvaro was so nice and helpful. It was our first time so we didn't really know where to start and he helped guide us and he recommended the chef's salad and the meat pot pies! So good. So happy we finally checked this place out and had a helpful server. We'll definitely be coming back with more friends!
