This restaurant is just a block from where I live. Tonight was my third visit since it opened a few years back. Tonight's occasion was my wife's birthday. Our group consisted of 6 adults and one child. We arrived around 6:00 P.M. [Tuesday evening] and the restaurant was full with a few parties waiting to be seated. It took around 20-25 min to be seated. Since it was busy we probably waited close to 10 min for our server but we were given water and chips immediately after being seated. NOTE: this place is not all that big so when its filled to capacity it tends to be rather LOUD. So if you're good with LOUD on a crowded night there's no problem. If your looking for a quite meal -- make sure the place isn't packed. Several of us had margaritas (house blended) and they were good. With the large crowd tonight it did take some time to get served but they didn't disappoint the with chips and salsa - we were well supplied. They make their own chips there and they're very thin, warm, and crisp. I love the chips! The salsa is good. All of us ordered the 3 choice combo which I think was $11.95. There's a decent selection. I ordered tamale, chile relleno, and a shredded beef taco. Plate came warm and full. I'll start by saying I like the runny beans they serve topped with cheese and their rice but to be honest most Mexican restaurants get this part right. The tamale (pork - the only kind they offer(ed)) was just so so. Nothing special at all about the taste and the sauce, which is might be the most important element in a tamale, was bland both in color and in flavor. It looked to me to be Las Palmas or some other store bought brand from Costco or Smart and Final. Good house-made enchilada sauce costs time and money but I would suggest they make some and cut it into the sauce they use to give it some character. The shredded beef taco was visually pleasing but it I was underwhelmed with its overall flavors. I think the tortilla was deep fried...could have been the oil... just was not a fan even though I'm a avid taco lover. The highlight of the meal for me was the chile relleno. I enjoyed it, flavors and texture was very nice. I'm giving this just an average rating. I would go again. I wouldn't order a taco there again -- or a tamale --> but I would go again. Some restaurants you just have to find the dishes that suite you. A good price on happy hour drinks [which they have] and their chips alone are enough to get me to go back. I will just be very selective about what i order. The fact that I only live a block away and have only been there 3 times in as many years also says something (doesn't it?) —————- EDIT My wife and I made another bust the other day on the recommendation of our oldest son and DIL 's to try their $2.00 tacos at happy hour - which runs from 2:00 - 6:00 PM. I think th he $2.00 tacos were better than the dinner taco I had with precious meal. I enjoyed it enuf to bump up my rating a star. We will definitely return again for these. Also added pics of the tacos and the happy hour menu.
