Overpriced Fajitas and chicken was dry and shrimp was dry and rubbery - the onions in the veggies were black - like who wants to eat burnt black onions… Queso Appetizer was powdery and bland not even like queso should taste. Expensive Margaritas had no alcohol in them. Owners have had the same chairs for 30 years that hurt to sit on and can’t even accommodate guests to have some padded chairs in there will not be returning with way better choices all around Tucson and Phoenix
Two things make Carlotas stand out in a sea of Mexican restaurants. First and foremost is Ricardo. Hands down one of the kindest and most capable waiters I’ve ever had the pleasure of meeting. I spent a few weeks in the area two years ago and would frequent Carlotas. Fast forward two years later, I walk in and sit down at the bar and Ricardo GREETS ME BY NAME! He’s just an absolute joy to chat with and I always make it a point to come see him and eat at Carlotas anytime I’m in the area. As for the food, it’s delicious. But it’s even better if you come during happy hour when you can eat like royalty on a working class wage. I recommend the quesadilla as it’s massive and served at half price during happy hour. Best deal around. Come and check them out!
Service was amazing loved the experience
Our table was given to other customers that came later. And the owner has the vocabulary of a sailer, I will never go back. I wish no one else would, period...
We went on Thursday margaritas $3 not bad deal. What I noticed was that my margarita wasn’t coming with a salted rim or lime like the others and the waitress didn’t seem to care on the product she was being out. Food I got the fajitas the combination with chicken, beef, and shrimp. Some of the chicken was chewy then the beef was low quality meat very chewy and the shrimp I was surprised that they didn’t devein them. I guess that’s was for extra favor? Then my friends got combo plates. I saw that the taco shells are those cheap shelf brand shells. Which for being an authentic Mexican restaurants I just expected a little better quality. Chips and salsa a very small serving size compared to other Mexican restaurants. Then they charge for more after 2 refills. Then the waitress was not too friendly. It was hard to request anything. You could tell she had no interest in serving us. So my final thought nice restaurant seen like the other waitress did their job. The price is a little high for what you get. I would expect this type of food back east, but to be in Arizona and getting average Mexican food was disappointing for the price you pay.
