Candler Park Market

It's a great neighborhood, Bodega/ convenient store. A place to pop in and shop that feels like part of the community.

I came in around 2pm on a weekday to grab a quick bite to eat from the deli in the back. It took the person up front a few minutes to acknowledge me and another few minutes to eventually take my order (one sandwich). I stood around waiting for a good ten minutes before the person cooking in the back walked to the seating area and sat by me to take a break from cooking. I was a little confused, but a couple other people started doing something in the kitchen, so I didn't think too much of it. Eventually, the cook went back and asked the person who took my order if I was waiting on something. It turns out my order was never delivered to the kitchen, and in the now 15-20 minutes I had been standing there waiting, my order was never started. The person who took my order got off their phone for a moment, apologized for my wait, and let me know the order never made its way to the kitchen. Unfortunately, I was not expecting to wait a half hour to get a sandwich, so I had to leave and head back to work without the food I paid for. I will not be going back to get food from the deli and would encourage others to either call ahead and place an order to be prepared upon their arrival or find an alternative food option.

Friendly staff, especially at the café in the back! Which is another plus - corner market store + café with coffee, sandwiches, and soup. Priced for convenience but not awful!

As convenient as this is, I think they're definitely taking advantage of the fact that there aren't really many grocery stores in this area, especially walking distance. No one wants to have to hop on Moreland just to get some eggs (especially if you don't have a vehicle). Their sister market, Grant Park Market, not only has a larger selection of things including bread, dairy, produce, grains, and frozen foods, but the actual quantity of those items is larger for less price... I genuinely can't believe every time I walk in there that a jar of pickles, for example, is ~$8... I understand that a lot of their products are local, and of course I appreciate that, but having seen the exact same products at Grant Park market for sometimes up to half the price for twice as much seems pretty ridiculous. I think a large point of having local markets is making things convenient for people not only with proximity, but also allowing people access to relatively affordable goods. I wish they considered that the way GPM somewhat has.
