Canal Bistro

George and the team at Canal Bistro can best be defined by one word, consistency. There’s no better merit or testament in such a fickle and demanding industry than just consistently delivering on flavor, service, atmosphere, etc and that’s exactly what the team here has done for nearly 2 decades. The friendliness and hustle of the staff, the speed and execution of the kitchen, and ambiance of a sunset on the canal hasn’t wavered in the slightest. The baba ganoush is and forever will be one of my favorites along with the spicy tahini, two of the simpler dishes are my favorites so that’s a testament in and of itself to the attention to detail throughout the menu. The falafel is perfectly crunchy yet soft and airy on the inside, the spanakopita is perfectly crisp yet flaky and the savoriness and char from the grill of the kebabs/kofta/shawarma are exactly as they should be. Pair it all with a refreshing tabouli or give into your real desire and get the garlic feta fries. As you can tell, I overeat every time I’m here yet I will never skip on the homemade baklava. Here’s to another 20 years and George’s “Mediterranean diet”. Also makes for the best/highest quality carry out in the area by far. Vegetarian options: Mediterranean fare is incredibly vegetarian and vegan friendly alike with a number of options from pescatarians, dairy free, etc. Dietary restrictions: Mediterranean fare is incredibly versatile restriction wise and provides a number of options from pescatarians, dairy free, vegan, etc. Kid-friendliness: The staff is always incredibly welcome to the community and neighborhood as a hole and have the space and menu items to go with that philosophy. Wheelchair accessibility: Street level so it is incredibly accessible.

Food was fresh with lots of flavor. Friendly staff. Very professional.

Very delicious food. Well prepared and quick. I was greeted promptly and sat right away. The restaurant has plenty of seating and a nice atmosphere. Haley, my waitress was great and made sure everything was good. I ordered the portobello burger with fries along with a cup of lentil soup. Both had lots of flavor and spices. They also offer complimentary pita bread with oil and herbs. Swing by and check them out. Vegetarian options: Lots of vegetarian and vegan options and they are clearly marked on the menu. Dietary restrictions: They have gluten free options that are clearly marked on the menu.

Bistro has good food, god service, and a nice place with an atmosphere that makes you feel comfortable. The food was great, it felt like eating very clean. The chicken shawarma( hope I spelled it right) was really good with the rice and Greek salad and the pita bread. I meant to take a pic of the plate but it smelled so good I ate it before I could, all I got was the Greek salad and it was just right also. I recommend trying them out I don’t think you’ll be disappointed.

While their seats are uncomfortable and there is no sound deadening in there, you have to yell to your guests to be heard, both the food and the service are outstanding. Don't sleep on this one, it's great.

Great food and great service! Post script :didn't go so well on the last visit. Tough lamb (how can that happen?) and burnt shawarma.
