It was just this morning and I made eye contact with the guy who was working. The clock said 6:59. They open at 7:00a. I knocked a few times and waited. Nobody opened it. I left because it was raining and freezing. Just disappointed that this dude literally HID out of sight and didn’t open the door for me. The other Cafe Tolas have great employees. I guess not this one.
I don't know how you mess up a taco, but they seem to do it every time. I've eaten there about half dozen times and wonder why I keep going each time. Steak is dry, shriveled and tasteless. Tortilla is stale. Often understaffed leaving the cook to take orders which is absurd. I think this place is the perfect example that with good marketing and trendy decor you can get a lot of customers and decent reviews.
The empanadas are good, but just very very expensive for what you get.
This is my favorite Cafe Tola location. They have a cute little outdoor space to sit and enjoy your food during warmer months. The empanadas can't be beat, the horchata latte is fantastic, and the machaca burrito is one of the best. Be sure to get all of the hot sauces.
Some of the best tacos and burritos I’ve ever had. I feel like I have been to other cafe tolas and they have not been nearly as good as this one.
