Went here once for a book club. Owner was very rude to us, saying we should have called ahead first (cafe was empty). When we all sat down, server told us that we all were required to order something (I have never seen that at a restaurant before even though the majority of us were ordering coffees, pastries, food. Owner/server came back again twice to reprimand and scold us that we hadn't called them ahead of time (again, restaurant was empty and could easily accommodate a group of 12). Super uncomfortable. Our same book club wanted to go to this restaurant again for book club, but had learned from past mistakes and called ahead first. Owner said we could only go if we ordered $30 worth of food EACH. Not even one of us was allowed to order a pastry and coffee. She even said she would make us leave without serving us if we didn't make our $30/person minimum when we ordered. This is insane! I understand that a restaurant needs to make money, but putting a minimum charge in a group (in a bookstore!) on a Sunday morning leaves a really bad taste in my mouth. Will not be returning as we are clearly not wanted there.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️It’s a must to try. Be back for sure.Just went back for breakfast on Saturday, amazing food and absolutely reasonable prices. This is becoming a signature restaurant for Ravenna neighborhood.Unbelievable great food and amazing costumer service.4⭐️health inspection on the wall.Keep up the good work. People complain about wanting to seat as book club or whatever this is ridiculous. Restaurant is completely private entity and has nothing to do with the book store. There is already an internet cafe seating area they provide for coffee, tea, pastries and Internet. You don’t go to any other restaurant 12 people buy a cup of tea and hang around for hours on Sunday morning that’s the busiest brunch day for them. Where’s the common sense? They have to pay taxes, wages, utilities, rent and plus 30% inflation on food prices nowadays. It’s so easy to put 1⭐️ review SMH. Parking: Plenty of parking Kid-friendliness: Kids play area Wheelchair accessibility: From entrance on 65th to the pub

One of the servers was quite rude to us - they must have been having a bad day, though many other reviews suggest that they are consistently rude. Food was fine. Very pricey. Internet is terrible. Third place books was very cute, though.

Arta Cafe is one of my favorite places in the neighborhood. Small business owners that pour their heart and soul into their business and work so hard to create a great atmosphere. I love the cavernous bar area, where you get a great selection of beer and wine. The beer is the coldest in the city, so refreshing! The food is great with a diverse menu. People come to play games, eat great food with friends and family. I obviously can’t say enough about this place. A cafe attached to Third Place Books and a underground hangout. It doesn’t get much better than this! Enjoy breakfast, lunch and dinner!

I've been going to Cafe Arta consistently for about three years. The food, the service, the drinks--they are all excellent. They make you feel like family, and it is the reason I always return. I do not understand the negative reviews that consist of something like, "I was told I had to order food or I had to leave. How rude!" The first thing to understand is that Cafe Arta is a separate business from Third Place Books. They are physically connected, so most people think they are one and the same business, but they are not. You might purchase a book at Third Place and think that entitles you to sit for hours at a table in the cafe while ordering nothing or perhaps just a small coffee. I can understand that impulse. Many coffee shops, even those connected to a bookstore, exist on the premise that you can come in, order a coffee, and sit for hours while reading. However, Cafe Arta is not a coffee shop. It is a full-service restaurant. It serves meals to customers. It is expected, especially during busy hours, that people who come into the restaurant will order a meal. If you don't want to order a meal, there is a smaller space in the bookstore with smaller tables where you can order a coffee and read. But in the restaurant itself, it is expected that you will order a meal. This fact doesn't make Cafe Arta a bad place to go. It just means it's a business that can't afford to give up tables to someone who wants to come in and sit for a few hours at a table and read. When I want to eat a meal, I sit in the restaurant and eat. When I just want a coffee, I go to the smaller cafe area in the bookstore, and I sip my coffee and read. But if I came into the restaurant, sat down at a table, pulled out a book, only ordered a $4.00 cup of coffee and told them I intended to sit there for an hour or two while reading, and they told me I needed to actually order a meal to stay in the restaurant, I wouldn't be offended. I'd say okay, then order food, or else leave and not complain. I simply cannot understand going to a RESTAURANT and getting upset when they ask you to order food in order to stay. The problem in that instance is not with the restaurant, but with the customer. Giving a negative review of a restaurant on that basis is not actually a review, it's a misunderstanding of the function of a restaurant and how restaurants make a profit.

A generally disappointing experience over a simple request. PLEASE NOTE: this is only a review of the cafe, and not the bookstore. I didn't want the mainstream, chain-coffee experience today, so I thought I'd pop into Third Place Books. I'd driven past but never had time to stop before. The atmosphere of a coffee shop with an internet cafe in a bookstore was EVERYTHING I was looking for this afternoon as I sat down to enjoy a tea and get some work done. Until ... When I asked for a refill of hot water for my tea - JUST HOT WATER - I was told they would need to charge me for it. Inconceivable. In all my year as both a server and a client in myriad establishments, I've never experienced something so inane. I'm hoping ownership will see and respond that this was simply a point of confusion on the part of the server (kept my receipt if you want to verify), and that this purported policy will be changed. Am I making a mountain out of a molehill? Perhaps. Regardless, it leaves a sour taste and discourages me from wanting to return to sample some of the very interesting cuisine you had on offer.
