I was excited to try Burma Love for dinner, but my excitement faded as I encountered several letdowns. Even though I had a reservation and got seated quickly, my enthusiasm waned when our waiter seemed unsure about the menu. The table was sticky, and we didn't get our water refilled, which was strange for a quiet Thursday night. The hibiscus basil martini provided a fleeting moment of delight, followed by the exceptional shrimp cake som tom, which showcased the kitchen's talent. However, my optimism dwindled with each passing moment of subpar service and miscommunication. The beef curry and lamb kebat, accompanied by coconut rice, offered fleeting moments of satisfaction, but even these were overshadowed by the disappointing dessert experience. The dessert took a whopping 30 minutes to arrive. We had to explain to two different servers that we were still waiting, only to receive lukewarm fried banana and melted ice cream. Moreover, the dishes were too salty, necessitating copious amounts of water to wash down. In short, Burma Love started with promise but ended with disappointment. The service and execution fell short, overshadowing the decent food.

We went to here for dinner after a recommendation from a friend. The server, while nice, was extremely slow, confused and almost seemed like he didn't know what he was doing. I thought for sure he was a busser. The food was pretty good, the tea leaf salad was amazing but I found the spicy chicken too sweet. We ordered a bottle of red wine, specifically pointed to a $56 bottle on the menu and didn't think twice when the bottle came to the table (we're not wine experts). When I got the bill it was over $600. They gave us a $400 bottle of wine instead of the $56 bottle we asked for. I called the manager over who blamed us for "drinking it already" and then tried to shift blame on the server. He was clearly just avoiding dealing with it. In the end, he begrudgingly gave us $100 off the bill. Mistakes happen, but I was very disappointed in how this was handled. I won't be back and will share my experience with my friends.

So disappointed with our experience. I had been looking forward to trying this restaurant. We went there for a business dinner on a Friday night, and ordered wine and and a shared appetizer to start. My colleague noticed immediately that the waiter was probably a busboy, and maybe filling in due to the restaurant being short-staffed. He didn't seem to know how to take down our order effectively, which we didn't fault him for at all....until the end of the meal, when we were presented with a $600 dollar bill for what should've been a $150 meal. Apparently, the waiter had accidentally given us a $400 bottle of wine instead of a $56 one. We are not wine experts, and simply drank what was in front of us, thinking that it was the bottle we had ordered. The worst part was the manager handling it very poorly; he seemed to blame the waiter (who didn't seem to speak English well and clearly wasn't supposed to be doing this job) and then blamed us for drinking the wine. Not happy with being punished for the restaurant's mistake. We will not be going back here.

Location was jam packed with a great ambiance. Ate family style with a large group. All of the vegan options were clearly explained which was nice. Food tasted fantastic and drinks were good too! Will be back.

I've been trying to come back to the downtown Burma Love (originally Burma Club) location for 4 years and despite a couple of plans falling through, I finally made it! This place quickly became one of my favourite restaurants to dine in at in SF! I first visited Burma Club before the COVID-19 lockdown and instantly loved the food, decor, and friendly staff. Nowhere else I've visited in the U.S. has a good selection of Burmese food and certainly not to the scale available in SF. If it's your first time at Burma Love, I recommend ordering the Laphet (green tea leaf) salad. It's award-winning for a reason, and I order this every time I visit one of the Burma Superstar restaurants located around the Bay Area. As for the other dishes, you can't go wrong with any of them. I've liked everything I ordered at the Burma Superstar restaurants, and I've visited 5 times at 3 different locations with 100% satisfaction from all the friends I've introduced to Burmese food.

The staff was incredible at helping us feel welcome and took extra time to talk with us, which we appreciated. We've had a lot of international cuisine and this was our first time trying Burmese food. The rainbow salad was fresh and innovative. Had the lamb curry, which was phenomenal. We both wanted to lick our plates clean haha! Will make a point to visit every time we're in town.
