Disgusting! On September 6, Boston’s Restaurant and Sports Bar (Boston's Gourmet Pizza), located at 5825 West Arizona Pavilions Drive here in Tucson was visited by the county health inspector for its annual visit. When the inspector left the restaurant had been cited for 12 violations, including 8 priority foundation violations, and was placed on instant probation. Right out of the gate Boston’s Restaurant and Sports Bar was hit with a violation as the person in charge (PIC) did not have a current Certified Food Protection Manager certificate. Instead, the PIC provided an expired certificate to the inspector. The inspector informed the PIC they had 10 days to register for the CFPM course. As the inspection continued, the inspector found that many of the hand-washing sinks had no available soap. This would need to be corrected by the time the inspector returned in 10 days. The issues continued when bags of meat had visible mold. These bags were discarded at the time of the inspection. When sanitizing within a working area, a small amount of chlorine must be present to ensure the cleaning surface and dishes are appropriately cleaned and sterilized of any possible germs from previous customers. Appropriate numbers run between 50 and 100 ppm. PPM, or parts per million, means there needs to be between 50 and 100 milligrams per liter of water. When tested, the restaurant had zero, which means the restaurant was not properly disinfecting and sanitizing dishes, and germs from previous customers likely were present when new customers were served. Other issues identified at Boston’s Gourmet Pizza included various temperature issues. In a walk-in cool or refrigerator, everything must sit below 41 degrees in order to prevent the development of bacteria. However, food in the restaurant’s refrigerator tested above the set threshold, including shredded cheddar at 49 degrees and chicken slices at 53 degrees. To top everything off, rodent droppings were found inside of containers of food and food contact items. Despite this, the restaurant remains open for business.

Two out of three meals were below satisfactory. Biggest issue we had was baby roaches on the wall between the serving station and the booth we were sitting in. We communicated this to the server/manager and she just kept it moving and gave us our bill.
