Bobby Chao's Restaurant

If you're ever in the NW definitely try out Bobby Chao's. We came here for dim sum and was impressed by the variety of items they had to offer. We ordered the 1) Bobby Chao Peanut Dumplings (generous filling of meat and peanuts). With the peanut dumplings you can really taste the essence of the peanuts. 2) Seafood dumplings (unique wrapping presentation with a good balance of scallops and shrimp). The seafood dumplings were saucy with lots of scallop. 3) The deep fried shrimp wontons (heavy filling of shrimp and the wontons had a golden look). These golden wontons had a nice crunch biting into it and flavor was good. 4) The beef tripe (good mix of scallions, tripe and ginger). The beef tripe was probably my least favorite as it didn't taste as fresh. 5) The bbq crepe (thicker crepe but chunks of bbq pork meat). They have a separate kitchen where they marinate the bbq pork asian style so you know it's fresh. The dishes here are around $6 to $8 per dish but the quality and taste is worth the price paid. Now after being this full I'll probably pass out. Edit: ordered delivery and this restaurant has totally changed. The food is terrible and the quality is no longer there. Their food either has a lot of msg or it can be fairly tasteless. It feels like the cooks do not care anymore.

It's my first-time to order online here. The food was okay. But the two ladies that was there was not so nice. I'm not gonna order here anymore.

Prize and food quality are acceptable in Calgary NW.

I was eating at Bobby Chow’s today, and after paying, I went to the washroom. When I got out of the washroom, I overheard the owner and waitress talking about me saying that I was an idiot for tipping. They were laughing and calling me stupid in Chinese. I then went and confronted them about me tipping. I told them that if they don't appreciate the tip, then it's best to return it to me. I wanted to show my thanks for their service. But I can't believe that tipping is considered dumb. Don't get me wrong, their service wasn't the best. But I still decided to tip them. I honestly thought tipping the waitress was a sign to show appreciation for their service. But in return, they talked behind my back and said I'm an idiot to tip?? I find this ridiculous. But on the other hand if you don’t tip, they'll call you cheap. So what should we do when we go out to eat? Bobby, you may not have been there or you may not have discussed the topic of tipping. My complaint is that your staff was blatantly calling me stupid. Just because I left a tip. I do not appreciate it that I'm being called stupid because I left a tip thanking them for their service. They didn't seem to be appreciative. But instead I was being made fun of? How is that any good customer service? As the owner, I believe that you should do some coaching and correcting to your staff. I believe that calling your customers stupid is unacceptable that's all. Additionally, I am not saying anything about Chinese as I am Chinese myself. I was just saying that I understood what your staff was saying about me. If they can say call me stupid in Chinese I wonder what they would say to others that don't understand the language. If they do not like to receive tips then I would like to advise others to not tip at all.

staff need be more friendly .

I have been visiting Bobby's for over ten years. I have always been a loyal customer. However, I have found that in recent times, the service has been terrible - especially the waitress with the short hair. Recently, everytime I ask for something, all I get from the waitresses is "just wait". I wait and they eventually forget that I had asked for assistance. The restaurant is not busy. Sometimes, I will go to just get takeout and don't leave tip. You can see the facial expression on the waitress change. The BBQ pork is not what it used to be. The service is, for a lack of better word, trash. You (the owner) need to address the waitresses attitude and efficiency. There is a reason why customers leave a small tip or no tip at all. The service is terrible. You have lost a loyal customer who has been visiting for over ten years. Never will I come back and I will be sure to let all my friends and family know.
