Black Hammock Restaurant

This restaurant wasn't very busy when we got there. It took the server awhile to get the beverages to us. Food was great but the gal didn't take real good care of us. They did get a little busier but her service could have been better.

Nice little hidden gem. Shrimp and grits were good and so was the gator. They have parrots and gators that you can look at. Pretty neat!

Great airboat rides but eating at the restaurant is not recommended as it is not worth the one hour wait for our entrees that have little taste. Everyone who came into the restaurant from the airboat ride that was after our boat ride returned got their food and entrees well before our entrees showed up. No entrees for us until I complained to the manager. Try to imagine your special needs child waiting that long for a burger and fries and almost falling asleep in the seat at the table. I understand in the restaurant business that it is getting harder and harder to get good quality workers and minimum wage keeps going up but sometimes you have to let go of the poor quality workers to get a better staff to provide quality service and good tasting food for your customers.

Have been coming to Black Hammock for over a decade. Love the airboat ride. Capt. Tim was a true professional. Had bought margaritas for our party at the restaurant prior to our ride and was told that we could bring them on the air boat, but once we were at the docks, we were told that we could not bring them on board. Some miscommunication going on. Have never patronized the restaurant at the top of the parking lot until today. Was soooooo looking forward to some gator and decided on the blackened and cajun gator bites. The chef had mentioned previously that he had just finished prepping 30lbs of gator meat...well that sparked my interest. My expectations were shattered when I received over fried, breaded gator with just a dusting of some dry blackening and cajun seasoning. I should have returned the order after seeing the burnt and dried out bites but I was too hungry to complain at that the time. After eating I did raise my dissatisfaction to the server who agreed that they should no have been breaded. No resolution was offered. I guess I should have asked how they were prepared, but assumed that the gator would have been sauteed and the spices added. Hugely disappointed.
