I agree with the reviewer who said “no words can describe the experience that we had”. Just not worth it at all. I think they’re paying Eater to write a bunch of articles about them and drive business. One of the main things we ordered was inedible. We went with a couple friends and we all think it was the worst “nice” meal we’ve had out in SF for ages. Hate to write a bad review for a small restaurant but it was just not good whatsoever and quite expensive.

Friends, товарищи.. I love to see more Russian cuisine on DoorDash in the city, so am not giving less stars. But I was unimpressed with flavor, price, and quantity. Leaving this review in hopes to give insight into thought process of average Russian customer seeing Birch and Rye for first time on DoorDash. Wishing you continued success. Ordered Stroganoff and Wood-Fired potatoes. Got 50% the potatoes I'd expect for 15$ (Cinderella Bakery gives more for 8$). I recognize this looks like a higher-end establishment and I did enjoy the buttery sauce and high quality mushrooms. But base of both items (Stroganoff noodles especially) were very bland / not flavorful. Price and quantity is understandable, now that I've checked out your website/story, and see your awards and target audience. But this was not sufficiently clear from first impression of DoorDash page, and the comparison with main point of reference (Cinderella Bakery) is not good, re: the aforementioned 3 factors. My unsolicited advice would be to get professional photos done of all dishes listed on DoorDash; to make it clear portion size, but also 'accesories'/plating (communicating their high-end nature), and write descriptions for menu items with keywords that communicate the same thing (gluten-free, grass-fed, etc). Otherwise customers who are unfamiliar with your establishment will likely have the same impression I did. Will not be ordering again, but I once again wish you success!

We wanted to like this place, but felt it was a miss for brunch. The pirozhki was over baked and dry. My steak was raw on the inside and served with the soggy salad, limp potatoes and undercooked eggs. You could tell the duck fat potatoes were refrigerated at one point (texture was off) and not reheated properly. We had to send them back. They were also the exact same potatoes as the Yukon potatoes on the skirt steak dish but our waiter didn’t warn us. The only thing that was good was the omelette with caviar but that dish comes with no sides. Together, the steak, omelette, potatoes and pastry with no drinks was $100. Not worth it.

The food was decent, but not over the top great. Inside was very cold - everybody was wearing jackets. The service was lukewarm - getting somebody’s attention is really hard. Overall, there are better ways to spend $200. If you’re going for a date or taking your friends out, pretty much any other decent place would be better.

We had cocktails here in a large group and they were unique and great. Beet sour vodka was my favorite!
