Bennison's Bakery

TLDR: Buyer beware. Never, ever, ever order from this bakery. Bakery screwed up birthday cake order, and then didn't care enough to make things right. I am disappointed in the poor customer service I received today. I ordered a birthday cake over the phone. Paid for the product in full. When I arrived, the birthday boys name had been spelled wrong on the cake. On a birthday cake?!?! That's unacceptable. Sure, I was irritated, anyone would be given the situation. However, I could have left a somewhat satisfied customer if the bakery had done their due diligence to make things right. After all, they were the ones the royally screwed up. Unfortunately, that it not what happened. What made me go from irritated to angry was the poor customer service I received in response to their failure. I asked what my options were to fix this situation. The person, I'm assuming the manager (I to assume because he lacked the basic level of decency and professionalism to introduce himself, so I have no idea what his name and position at the bakery were), said I only had two options. My two options: 1) Kicks rocks. - Take the cake as is. 2) He would "try to fix it himself." Mind you, he is not a baker, or a cake decorator. It never occurred to him to even attempt to make the situation right. No offer of free candles (it was a birthday cake after all), a discount, additional items to make up for their screw up. Nothing. I am both disgusted and disappointed. Everyone knows that a birthday is a big deal. A bakery should especially know that. To top things off, the unnamed, poor excuse for a manager, kept talking over my cake. I closed the box while we were talking, and he had the audacity and lack of basic common sense and hygiene to open it up again mid conversation. Why?!?! Why exactly? Why would he do that?!?! To remind me of the screw up. I already saw it. Why do you need to compound the insult by talking over my cake. Thus spreading your unwanted germs. While the unnamed "person in charge" was in the back, one of the employees whispered to me, "I would not let him try to fix the letters if I were you. He's probably going to make it worse." I am still angry. No, I am livid. I guess my business meant nothing to the incompetent "manager" on duty that day. Why should he care? The bakery already had my money. No need to make things right with a customer you failed in every way. I will never order from this bakery again. I advise that you don't either. Unless you want to be insulted, disappointed, and have your money stolen.

Order a custom cake for my wife. It looked fantastic and what I was looking for. However, when it was time to serve it, it was frozen solid inside. Such a disappointment.

When on my paper route I would stop at Bennison's on Saturday mornings getting a healthy breakfast (LOL). The food was much better. That was almost 55 years a ago. I'm not disabled in a wheelchair and noticed the store is not really handicap accessible. However, what really upsets me. When the owner and staff are aware of the driver with Greco and Son's Distributors intentionally will illegally blocks the SE corner Davis/Maple for his convenience making deliveries at Bennison's Bakery. The owner of Bennison's will not say anything to the driver concerning him illegally blocking the crosswalk preventing pedestrians crossing this intersection safety. Particularly of those pedestrians that are disabled, seniors and families with their children. Thhe owner should be respectful of our community by saying something to the driver and Greco and Son's Distributors. The drivers does this continuously. Which is why I refuse to give them my business

Pretty, but stale. I had heard great things but the pastry I bought was so stale I couldn’t cut through it. It was like rubber.

Bennisons like many staple bakeries in neighborhoods had its day, but it's gone. Everything is "ok"but nothing amazing. And good custimer service is spotty but "ok" . But I'm sure it's my age. I knew better.

We ordered another lemon meringue for my partners birthday this year. So disappointed. Firstly, the pie is no more than 8 inches. My neighbor who kept the pie hidden for me from the birthday boy even commented about how small it is. I wasn't aware when I ordered that I was getting a small pie. No one said anything over the phone. Secondly, the meringue was very low. Not only that but it was gummy and had a taste like marshmallow gel. It was weird. Not high and fluffy like a meringue should be. The lemon bottom was overly sweet and not tart. I don't think we will do this again. But we still love Bennisons for other stuff. I ordered a lemon meringue pie for a special occasion. And while I suspect there was flavorings in it. My partner enjoyed it very much. I just wasn't up for making one from scratch. I also have been enjoying the Irish Soda bread. And I love that it is made with whole wheat and not refined flour which I do not eat. I would love it even more if it were made with honey. I like bennison's for certain things.

Employees are extremely rude.

I come here mainly for the donuts which are always good and worth stopping by for. The last 2 times I’ve gotten their coffee cake which costs over 11.00 with tax. The coffee cake was dry and old. I don’t even know what the ingredients are bc they don’t list them. The ends were so hard and inedible. It was disgusting. Don’t get their coffee cakes. I also emailed them to let them know I was not happy with my purchase as it was literally inedible and could. It serve to my guests. They never responded to make it right. I have no reason to patronize Bennisons if they sell stale products and don’t care about the quality of what they sell. They also need to eliminate the tip option as this isn’t a sit down restaurant. It’s counter service!!!!
