Little gem! The food is all fresh and homemade. Cozy little spot off the beaten path. Vegetarian options: Lots of vegetarian options. You can also adjust to make vegan.
If you grew up eating here, don’t come here expecting it to be the homey place it used to be. I came in for a pick up order and was greeted by a waitress whose English was sub par and service was rushed. The cooks and staff didn’t have chemistry in the kitchen. The wet burrito I ordered was nothing like the wet burritos I used to get. Used to be double the size covered in sauce. My fiancé got a Philly and the steak was tough as a tire. It really is unfortunate that Saint Augustine is being bought and sold at the rate it is. I used to rate this place 5 stars.
Wonderful dinner! Yulia was our server, she is a delight! My special request for guacamole with no onions was pleasantly achieved and deliciously fresh. Both of our salads, Tropical Ahi Tuna Salad and Shrimp Curry Salad were fabulous! And the Homemade Key Lime Pie was amazing!!! Dietary restrictions: Gluten Free options and special request for no raw onions was pleasantly achieved.
Charming cafe with great hospitality, fair prices, and tasty food. The mahi taco was flavorful without being too spicy. We also had a wrap with colorful veggies and tangy humus. They have plenty of vegetarian options (maybe also vegan) and also have a happy hour! Vegetarian options: Vegetarians will find options.
Well… we hate loving a place for a long time (13 years) and being beyond disappointed. They changed owner, again, but this time everything went down hill. This is our 30th anniversary weekend and went back to the places we know and love. We’ve had the saddest meal we’ve had in a long long time. First of all, they weren’t crowded at all but clearly overwhelmed. Waitresses were nice but ours couldn’t remember half of what we ordered and made me repeat everything 3 times but ok, we didn’t care, it’s a chill place and we were in no rush. My food came out 10 minutes or more before my wife’s. You don’t really enjoy a meal together if the food comes in time slots but oh well. I had a tuna poke bowl or plate since they didn’t bother to change dishes they’ve had for probably over 13 years but that doesn’t matter. It was a splat of overcooked flavorless white rice with some overripe avocado, a few slices of spicy pickled cucumber slices and cheap raw tuna with a side of bland flavorless sauce. My wife had the wet burrito which is a staple at the Back 40. I’ve had it many times and know what it’s supposed to look and taste like. It supposedly came out of the oven but was just warm. No melted cheese on top as it should, the mojo pork was average at best and the whole thing was sad. Just sad. There was a guy alone sitting next to us having an appetizer when we arrived that got his food after were done with ours while having ordered a wet burrito as well… No one asked us if the food was ok, if everything went well. Just hello, what do you want to eat, here’s the food, here’s the check, good bye, but at least with a smile. We looked at each other and without words knew that this would be the last time we’d eat there.
Been eating on the "island" for a long time. I would put Back 40 as one of the best restaurants in term of price, service, and quality of food. Everything is so fresh. Something on the menu for everyone. Olivia our server was great! Tucked away off of A1A in Treasure Beach. Skip the crowds at St. Augustine Beach and check it out. You won't be disappointed. Parking: parking not an issue
It is my first time here. The person who sat next to me was a regular to this place. Been coming here for almost 12 yrs. He said, “There is no soul in the food anymore”. Very true. I ordered a wet burrito, the food came very delayed. Probably they missed the order. It didn’t matter to me but it felt like it was way undercooked and it wasn’t even warm. Couldn’t say if it was even baked or not. I am always up for supporting local businesses and restaurants. It’s sad to see a place like this going down gradually. The owners should start taking these feedbacks and change something in the way they are operating.
Cute Atmosphere. Food was decent.
