Great family owned soul food restaurant that we found on Eater. Super good food that was clean and flavorful. Between my GF and I we had fried chicken, bacon, fried green tomatoes, tomato gravy, country potatoes , grits and biscuits.
Not worth the wait (one hour and twenty minutes). We saw this place on TV and made a point to come here on our trip. They ran out of many of the sides. Chicken was good. French toast soggy, not cooked through. The $7 bacon biscuit tasted good but was TINY. Not worth $7. Two of us left hungry and ended up running through the drive thru at the COOKOUT. Shouldn't be that way...
Both the food and the service were excellent!
Let's start off by saying that the employees were pleasant and friendly. The owner walked around and kissed customers on the head. (Super weird if that's not your thing.) Apparently, this restaurant has been open 27 years. I ordered smothered porkchop, macaroni and cheese, and green beans. The utensils were just old and dirty. The utensils look as if they are the utensils from 27 years ago. The drinking cups are too. Please invest in utensils and cups. Also, update the display. It looks old and blurry. Didn't bother to refill our drinks nor offer if we needed anything else. There were only 8 customers. It was NOT busy. For a $20 meal, I expected a tender gravy porkchop. It was hard as a rock and unseasoned. The gravy was old, lumpy, and unseasoned. Macaroni and cheese had no flavor. The super small portion had a ton of oil in it. The canned green beans were overcooked, super mushy, no meat and unflavored. The hot water cornbread was nasty and hard. I'm glad I was visiting from out of town. Alcenia's is way overhyped. I left still hungry. It wasn't worth it. We drove 10 miles to Southland Casino, paid $29 for a buffet, and it was absolutely delicious.
Woke up craving meatloaf and Alcenia's did it for me! My first time trying it out and calling in my order was easy. It was ready in a timely manner on my lunch break, & when I went to pick up she hugged me like she was my Grandma and we knew each other forever. Loved the calm atmosphere and food was off the chain. Good ole fashioned soulfood plate, meatloaf w/mashed potatoes and macncheese. Will definitely be back!
Alcenia's food and service was great, we will most definitely patronize again when we come back to town!! I give it two thumbs up
For $20, I got two 2 shriveled overcooked dark meat pieces. A little cup of rice with one small dry biscuit (one mouthful). 1 small cup of gravy. I didn’t feel the love. I like the game but they’re short staff
Incredible soul food that comes with a kiss on the head!
This is a very quaint, lovely little restaurant. The fried chicken and the sides were delicious. The owners are so sweet and want you to enjoy every bite! Thank you for a wonderful lunch today.
