We were not allowed to enter with a sleeping baby in her stroller. The restaurant was empty (it was Monday at noon). We offered to leave the stroller on the side. They were unaccommodating and completely inflexible. For a family friendly space like the San Diego Zoo the lack of logic is unexplainable.
I was extremely disappointed with my experience at Alberts. Despite having a sleeping infant in a stroller, we were refused entry into the restaurant. This lack of accommodation for families with young children is unacceptable and left me feeling unwelcome. As a result, we had to find an alternative dining option, which was inconvenient and disappointing. I would not recommend Alberts to anyone seeking a family-friendly dining experience.
Make a reservation online or call at 11 when they open. Food was awesome and the last thing you want is to share a picnic table eating a worm hot dog after all the walking in the Zoo. Expect $70-80 for family of 4 but it's real food you would eat at a good restaurant. Kid-friendliness: Chicken fingers and fries for the kids is always the right choice.
We had a delightfully delicious lunch at Albert’s. The ambiance was fun and elevated (considering being in the middle of the zoo). The cheesy garlic bread was a fantastic starter, recommended for 3-4 people since it is large and rich. I had the flat iron steak salad, which was cooked to perfection (juicy and tender too). For horseradish lovers like me, the dressing was wonderful and complimented the steak and greens perfectly. My husband and I indulged in cocktails, which were balanced and fragrant, and not too sweet or syrupy (despite the colorful appearances), and we both very much appreciated that there was no skimping on the spirits. Made the afternoon lots more fun! Our server Brianna was fantastic as well. Highly recommend but fair warning, it is probably the priciest dining option in the park. Make a reservation in advance if you can.
SD Zoo version of fine dining. Pretty outdoor seating area with waterfall. Kind of pricey for what you get overall
Good food and good service. Kid-friendliness: The kid's grilled chicken with fruit was delicious.
Was really hoping to have a nice quiet meal here but unfortunately it was not meant to be! The location is definitely very nice with beautiful waterfalls which you can't hear at all due to the overwhelming sound of yelling kids and crying babies. I guess it was due to the long weekend because previous reviews mentioned how quiet it was but be careful since that is clearly not the case on weekends. The food is seriously overpriced as well and service was friendly but very slow. We had the quesa birria tacos which to be fair were good but in no way are they worth $24! We also had the tuna melt which was fine but nothing special. We knew the place would be overpriced like everywhere else in the zoo but our thinking was paying more to get some quiet rest as others suggested but I definitely don't think that's the case on weekends.
No seasoning on food at all. Tasteless. Overpriced
Who knew zoo food could be this great?! Definitely recommend the truffle fries, fish tacos, and chicken sandwich. Was pleasantly surprised they had a variety of tea, which was nice on this chilly day with intermittent showers.
