African Grill and Bar - Lakewood Colorado

Fantastic meal!! Came here on a business lunch and everything was perfect. The flavors are so great. And, being a vegan, I was happy to see some tasty options made entirely with plants. So yum! Give it a try!

We ended up here because the original place we were planning to go to was closed. I'm so happy our original plan didn't work out because this place is phenomenal. My husband, a friend, and I shared: - Gingerbiss Juice - Ghana Must Go - Kelewele - Cabbage Lamb + Jollof Rice - Pounded Yam Fufu + Egusi & Goat - Ugali/Pap Oxtail Everything was packed with flavor. A couple of my favorite things were the Jollaf rice and the oxtail, but every single thing was incredible. I wasn't familiar with the cuisine, so I loved that they had a best dishes section of the menu. We also got some great recommendations from the employees. I will definitely be coming back here!

Things weren’t working out. Restaurant was uncomfortably hot but we weren’t allowed to sit outside. Weren’t allowed to sit at the bar either, which inexplicably had daisy chained the barstools together using Velcro straps, meaning our acrobatics to just sit at the bar were for naught. If half the restaurant is closed, then seat us please. Eventually found a table on the “open side” of the restaurant. Sat down and it took 10 minutes for a server to “find us” even though there were only 3 other tables being sat. Only 2 out of 3 of us have received water and menus at this point. We wait another 10 minutes. Halfway through we are bestowed another, 2nd pitcher of water, but still no 3rd drinking glass. Server comes back and finally takes our order. I reiterate that I would like a water glass after placing my order. 15-20 minutes go by. Restaurant is still hot. Still no water for me though. Have not seen a server since. I get up and check the tables. Nobody else has received food, not even the folks that were already sat when we walked in. This + never receiving water motivated us to leave and find somewhere else. I have to say that I have never done this in any restaurant before, ever. Vibes were immaculately bad all around. Place felt like a ghost town. Heard no sounds of cooking food when walking around. We were here for about 45 minutes and it took around 25 to take our order with only 3 other tables being sat. Folks looking to try something new should be aware that this is a completely family owned and operated joint. Maybe we would have had a better time if I had gotten up and gone exploring through the restaurants many cramped twists and turns to find a server to ask for water. Maybe we just don’t “get it” or maybe this was just a particularly bad day. But I’ve never really experienced service like this before and I needed to write about it, sorry.

There food here is excellent. I really enjoyed the fried plantains with a very flavorful dipping sauce. The people were very friendly and welcoming. They provided great advice when picking something out for my first time.

We loved eating here! Service was so friendly and the food was incredible. The lamb spinach stew and the coconut chicken stew are highly recommended! Will definitely come back!

Best Ghanaian food in Denver.

Ok, this is hands down one of my favorite spots in the greater Denver area. I even had them cater my sister’s wedding because that’s how much we love their food. The ambiance is so unique. Very homy - truly a ma and pop shop…even their kids work as servers/hosts sometimes. They always say hi to us on a personal level and even keep up with the marriages/couples within our group. One thing I will say is be patient and don’t show up too hungry, because it will be a whole experience with occasionally up to a 45min-60min wait for food. But it’s well worth the wait because you know that food is coming out fresh as can be. You can also enjoy some wine or refreshing African beer while you wait. I recommend the samosas with the spicy sauce (truly a very spicy sauce so be prepared) as an appetizer, spinach stew with lamb (they have a ton of protein options though if lamb isn’t your jam), jollof rice, plantains, and most importantly the spicy jerk stew with chicken (again your choice of protein here) but just be aware they are noooot lying about the spice here so not for the faint of heart, but so good! The food is like nothing you’ve ever had before, and it’s well worth a try. Could not recommend this place more!!! Go visit the Osei-Fordwuo family!

I love food from this restaurant I’ve been ordering for the past a year. I tried to make an order today, I wasn’t able to check out. The new menu that’s updated has issues with online delivery.

Build your own entree with great meat, fish, rice and sauce options. The lamb dish was tender and succulent. Listened to a up-and-coming 5 woman jazz-folk band playing diverse music, with I’m guessing, African style drums. Ghanaian Club beer was a treat!
