Loved our first visit to Abernethy’s. The food was excellent and the service was outstanding. Convenient for Music Center events.

We found this gem when we were in DTLA to see the afternoon showing of Alvin Ailey. It was raining and windy so our options for walking around to look for a place were thwarted. We passed the tent for this place and decided to give it a try. Initially it was more out of convenience as it had great warm heaters and was within steps of the place where the show was. To our pleasant surprise the food and service were incredible. They apparently change chefs every so often and we were lucky enough to enjoy Chef John Cleveland's dishes all which were excellent. The menu is small but perfect. Our waiter AKIL was fabulous! Super knowledgeable about food allergies (I am allergic to dairy and wheat) and so gracious. When we arrive he asked us: 1- if we were going to see a show so he could ensure we were out in time, and 2- if anyone had allergies. I told him about mine and he went to the kitchen and came back with a list of all of the dishes that I would be able to eat. How fabulous is that? I ordered the Crab and Asparagus, my husband had the Angus beef short ribs and our son had Mary's chicken. Everything was presented beautifully and delicious. I drink RYZE coffee and brought it with me, and Akil was kind enough to bring hot water and oat milk for us. If you are going to see a show, or in the area, this is definitely worth visiting. Dietary restrictions: I am allergic to dairy and wheat and our waiter AKIL went to the kitchen and came back with a list of all of the dishes that I could order! They can definitely accommodate! They also gave me oat milk for my coffee.

We were lucky enough to snag a seat at the bar for Sunday afternoon lunch prior to Alvin Alley. It's a wonderful restaurant with a Southern vibe and a cool atmosphere. The wine and cocktail list are great and also southern infused. I ordered the chicken which was moist and delicious and my partner had the spicy rice and crab salad which both had a bit of heat and were unusually great. And even the cookie for desert was a treat. I am told this Chef is there until June so I would definitely recommend a visit soon!

Pleasant Dinner outside before the opera. Crab cake appetizers were pretty good, but I always wish for more of that yummy sea critter. The aspagus and crab salad was flavorful, but overdressed making it hard for the crab to show itself. Fisherman's stew was very nice. Server was friendly but disappeared for the length of an opera.

Menu changes seasonally. The ribs were good, but I would have ordered something other than the chicken if I was to return. Can't wait to see who the next chef is.

Ate dinner there before "El Ultimo Sueño de Frida y Diego." While we had reservations, we had to sit outside because a server allowed another couple who was sitting outside to sit inside. We were told they were very busy as three different shows were happening on the same night. The service showed that as we waited about 20 minutes before our order was taken. Since my hubby and I are both vegan, we ate the one entrée that was available: japchae -- sweet potatoe noodles with mushrooms, red pepper, sesame seeds, tamari sauce, and maybe ginger. We skipped the appetizer since we didn't want to risk being late to the opera. It was a good call on our part as our meal arrived before our drinks did (2 glasses of cabernet). The flavors in the japchae were drowned by the tamari sauce. While I understand it's used for flavoring, less of its use would be better. The server never returned to see if everything was okay. We only got his attention once we asked for the check. We skipped dessert and headed for the show since time was of the essence and the overall experience was uneventful. About 20 minutes later, I started feeling unusually thirsty which didn't make sense since we drank a large bottle of Aqua Panna during dinner. The thirst continued. When we got home, we both drank an entire bottle of water (32 ounces). It dawned on me that the reason we were so thirsty was due to the salty meal. I'd consider going back to eat at this restaurant as it's in the perfect location to the opera house, but I'm skipping the japchae to avoid the excess salt and incessant thirst which had lasted through this morning. Vegetarian options: There's one appetizer and entrée that are vegetarian.

We didn't eat this time but might one day after we study the menu. We're not familiar with Korean food. We had a couple of drinks at the bar. Great service and the atmosphere was quiet and relaxing.
