This is a long due review of a magical anniversary night at the second floor last November. Food was delicious and music with Caylee and Nikolas was amazing, they are so talented. Place, food, service and music were just the right combination to a perfect night with my husband.

Food was a bit expensive for what you got, next time I'll probably just get drinks. Went to the early Friday music slot and it was quite cozy. 12$ a head per set quite reasonable

A colleague was playing at 2nd Floor Gastown and my wife and I decided to go check him out. We had always wanted to try the Water Street Cafe but never got around to it. 2nd Floor Gastown was new to us and we were pleasantly surprised with the warm intimate room when we arrived. There is a cover charge ($12) for the 2nd floor but it goes towards the musicians so it's a good cause. Dine Out Vancouver was taking place at the time and we both opted to partake. There were only 2 options for appetizer which was only slightly disappointing given that the tapas menu is quite extensive. A few more choices would have been nice. That said, the Caesar salad was excellent. Mains included Salmon, Chicken, Pasta and vegetarian options. For an add on you could choose the Lasagna or Chicken Parm. I selected the Parm and my wife had the lasagna. The oven Roasted Chicken Parmesan came complete with herbed panko-crusted farmcrest free-range chicken, burrata, hand-made fresh spaghetti al pomodoro, fresh organic mixed greens & heirloom tomato salad with citrus honey olive dressing. The portion was HUGE! Overall the Parm was excellent, I was pretty hungry but couldn't finish my meal. My wife opted for the Lasagne alla Bolognese with classic pork, veal, beef, red wine rosemary meat ragù, parmesan, ricotta salata, fresh herbs. The portion was just right, not too big and just enough along with the previous course starter salad. I added a side of the asparagus / broccolini to add to our meal. The menu promotes this as a sharable plate however it was a little light on the veggies but along with the Salsa verde, pickled chili and crispy garlic, it made a wonderful accompaniment. Personally I could have used a few more pieces of each but that's just my veggie loving opinion. Service was excellent, Holy took very good care of us and was careful not to rush our meal. My wife commented that it was a nice change not to be rushed through our meal. The PA was just right for volume, the style and genre of the music was a perfect pairing with our wonderful meal. We'll definitely be back next time we're in the mood for dinner and live music. 4 1/2 stars (someone tell my how I can do a half star on this app).

We were here for the Dine out menu. The food was mediocre and the Creme Brulle was disappointing. The live music room upstairs was cold, dark, not busy and needing sound proofing. The servers and the Steam Clock were the best part of the experience.

My friend from out of town wanted to go here because they have live music . Having been told there would be a "cover band" I wasn't expecting much but I was pleasantly surprised. The food was great, the service was excellent. Prices were competitive with similar restaurants in the area that don't offer live music. What really stood out was the duo that performed for us. We were treated to a surprisingly lovely set from the band called "Rising River". They did a fantastic job playing a mix of covers and originals. Some of them in English and some in Spanish. The Spanish touch to their music works very well for them. My friend and I came here with the intention of catching up with each other and we expected to mostly use the music as background, but instead we ended up focused on the band. Between songs they chatted with us. Erik was the lead vocalist and played rhythm guitar, and Spencer played lead guitar. Apparently they were missing their percussionist who was away but they worked very well as a pair and I hope they keep writing and making music. I was shocked that the second floor wasn't completely filled, let alone empty! It still makes no sense to me when this restaurant ticks all the boxes: venue style, food quality, great service, and quality entertainment. I expect to be back.
