Can’t appreciate this place more! Every time I yearn for Mediterranean food Sumac has been my place. Home away from home. The food I eat reminds the food my grandma used to make back home in the Mediterranean. They are always adding more top-notch items on their menu. I tried most of the items on the menu, I even catered food for some of the events I organized; go for it you will never be disappointed!!!
Was headed home from SF and knew that I was gonna sit in a ton of traffic and probably get hungry. So I wanted something kinda quick and not insanely expensive. This place . Its a pick up window only, but you could easily walk down the hill and chill if the weather was nice. I got a half chicken bowl/half salad, w/ grilled veggies, paprika aioli sauce and sumac labne sauce. It came to $23, which I was like dang SF is expensive. Buuuut then I picked it up, and that bag was HEAVY. It was definitely enough to feed 2 people. Probably 3 meals for me. It was The veggies were all fresh, no sketchy weird chicken pieces. I had no idea what the sauces were but aioli is like garlicky Smokey vegan mayo (recommend), the sumac labne is like plain Greek yogurt with black pepper and a little beet juice (kinda bland, would try the herb labne next time instead). TRY THIS PLACE -Picture is of Alcatraz Island, Sumac is on the corner of street, (in front of that black SUV for reference).
A tasty healthy meal, much needed!!
Best food in San Francisco, easily. Super friendly people, fresh, tasty food, dairy free/gluten free/healthy options. Fast service as well.
Why does this place have three separate names / aliases as if it’s a fugitive on the run ? Today they added a fourth name - gastrobot; Perched at the top of Russian Hill, pilgrims climb the steep hills to get to this apparent Holy Grail of Middle Eastern food; I am perplexed as their Red Lentil Balls Rice Bowl incinerated my mouth and I had to call the fire department . Their best dish is the dips and the classic hummus but if you try asking for extra pita from them, they will demand your first born; Photos also show Beautiful houses and scenes around this place !
The staff was very nice and kind. The food was amazing. All mezes were fresh and delicious. I would come again. Thank you!

Highly recommend!! During a road trip, our visit to Sumac became one of the highlights of the entire journey. I really enjoyed the meal. I highly recommend the meatball wrap and the meze flight. The mezes were just amazing. Worth trying, specifically Hummus, Baba Ganoush and Muhammara, definitely a real Mediterranean experience. The banana pudding is a must-try delight. Super kind staff, clean and great service. Thumbs up!
