Ocha Classic - a name that had been making rounds on my TikTok feed, piquing my curiosity. This Thai restaurant, located in the bustling Koreatown, promised a culinary journey that I was eager to embark on. Parking was a bit of a challenge, but a $7 lot conveniently located in an alleyway behind the restaurant eased the process. The prompt seating and iced water service were commendable, setting a positive tone for our meal. The appetizers were a delightful start, but the main course is where the experience took a downturn. We ordered the Spicy Chicken Soup and Combo Chow Mein, dishes that had been lauded in numerous social media posts. The chicken in the soup tasted as if it had been frozen, a sentiment echoed by my dining companion. The noodles were a disappointment, resembling boiled instant noodles mixed with the same lackluster chicken from the soup. It was a first for me - sending a dish back. This experience has made me reconsider the reliability of TikTok recommendations. This was the second time I fell victim to a trend, only to be left highly disappointed. While Ocha Classic may hold a special place in the hearts of many for its history and nostalgia, the food is mediocre at best. A word of advice to future patrons: there’s a 10% service charge for dine-in meals. When we inquired about this charge, we were directed to a sign on the wall. While this place might conjure up bygone feelings, any serious foodie should steer clear. I hope my experience serves as a cautionary tale for those seeking a truly satisfying culinary experience.
