I have been purchasing Western Union money orders for home and Office rent for the last two years at Kroger’s. I have always purchased them using my debit card (not cash). These are obviously larger money orders so they always write down my drivers license, my social and the money order numbers. I usually go to Kroger‘s at Stoneridge (which are amazing and have never given me a hard time ever ) but occasionally I will go to Kroger‘s at 300 South Hamilton Rd. only because it’s usually on the way to where I’m going. I tried to purchase money orders at Kroger’s 300 S. Hamilton Rd., approximately two months ago. Upon walking up to the customer service counter and telling them what I needed. There was a manager that began to argue with me, claiming that I needed to purchase them with cash and I explained to him, no that’s not true I purchase them every month with my debit card. As he continued to argue with me, he called someone and they explained to him that he was wrong and that yes I can purchase them with a debit card. He apologized profusely. So today I go into Kroger’s at 300 South Hamilton Rd. to purchase my monthly money orders. As I approach the customer service counter I am greeted by a young adult female named Jessie. I explained to her as I usually do that I need to purchase several large money orders. First thing out of her mouth. Oh, you can only do it with cash. And I’m thinking to myself here we go again. I said to her no that’s not true. I said last time I was here I went through the same thing they argued with me. They apologized, and they sold me the money orders. She continued to argue with me so I asked for a manager. Alex (not sure his title) but he had a red vest on so I’m assuming he’s got some kind of a title came up and picked up the paper and said you can only purchase these with cash. And once again, I explained to him that no that’s not true. I’ve been purchasing large money orders at Kroger’s for over two years with my debit card. He continued to argue with me. So at that point, I asked for a store manager. Alex slammed the paper down on the counter and said well they’re just gonna tell you the same thing. Now mind you I spend easily $5000 a month at Kroger’s between money orders and groceries for our entire family. I understand that they are being careful because these are large money orders. If you’re so concerned about it, stop selling them and if you’re going to sell them stop treating people like their criminals and giving them a hard time! Finally, a manager came up and made two phone calls and found out, Yes, I was right! The manager did apologize for Alex. I went back up to the counter to purchase the money orders from Jessie and she was still snotty and rude. I told the manager if I had an employee who treated customers the way I was treated today they would be fired. She said oh they’re part of the union they can’t be fired. That’s not true, because I know someone that was fired from Kroger’s. I think Kroger‘s corporate office would like to know how their customers are being treated by young rude, disrespectful employees. Shameful! I will never step foot in this store ever again. I will take my business elsewhere and start buying my money orders and groceries somewhere else! Maybe Kroger’s will take this seriously and actually do something about it!
